The War of 1812

(The Second American Revolutionary War 1812-1815)

The Star Spangled Banner

by Francis Scott Key

Tattered and torn, the American flag still flew bravely over Ft. McHenry as the British pounded the fort during the Battle of Baltimore. A young American attorney, Francis Scott Key was held prisoner by the British aboard a ship just off Baltimore Harbor. As he watched helplessly he was inspired to write the words to our National Anthem on the back of an envelope.

The fifteen star flag still flies over Ft. McHenry, every hour of every day.

Freedom - Freedom - Freedom

"Taxation without representation is tyranny" shouted by James Otis became the rallying cry of the American Patriots when Great Britain's King George wanted to make the colonists help pay for England's war with the French and Indians. Most of the colonists came to America in search of freedom and they felt that Great Britain was not giving them the same rights as the people still living in England.
